Table linen is the first layer of a beautiful table. It protects the wood, glass or marble underneath, softens the look of the room and gives your crockery a clean canvas. Our soft furnishings focus on white European-style table linen - embroidered cotton tablecloths, a French lace table cover and an embroidered runner - plus gold curtain tiebacks to finish the room.

Tablecloth or Table Runner?

Many hosts use both: a runner every day and a full tablecloth when guests come. You can also layer them - a runner laid over a plain tablecloth adds depth for festive tables.

How to Measure for a Tablecloth

• Measure the table top - length and width for rectangular tables, diameter for round ones.
• Decide on the drop - how far the cloth hangs over each edge. About 6 to 12 inches is typical for dining; a longer drop looks more formal.
• Add the drop twice to each measurement. For example, a table 72 × 36 inches with a 12-inch drop needs a cloth of about 96 × 60 inches (8 × 5 feet).
• Check chair clearance - the cloth should not sit on guests' laps.

Our tablecloths are sized around the most common Indian dining tables: about 8.5 feet long for 6-seaters and 10 feet long for 8-seaters.

How to Lay a Table Runner

• Classic: down the length of the table, draping a few inches over each end.
• Across: two or three runners across the width, each under a pair of place settings, like placemats.
• Layered: over a plain tablecloth for a festive table.
• On a console or sideboard: a runner protects the surface under a vase, candles or a buffet.

Lace or Embroidery?

Lace is soft, romantic and European - lovely for brunches, anniversaries and Christmas. It lets a little of the table show through at the border. Embroidery is crisper and more formal, with texture that catches the light - it suits festive dinners, pujas and classic dining rooms. Both work with our white, pastel and gold tableware.

Why Cotton Table Linen?

• Absorbent: cotton soaks up small spills instead of letting them run.
• Breathable and soft: it drapes naturally and feels good under the hands.
• Easy to wash: cotton handles regular laundering.
• Looks better with age: good cotton softens with each wash.

Removing Common Indian Food Stains

• Turmeric (haldi): blot, rinse with cold water from the back, then dab with a little dishwashing liquid; drying in sunlight helps fade what remains.
• Oil and ghee: sprinkle talc or cornflour to absorb the oil, leave for 15 minutes, brush off, then wash with dishwashing liquid.
• Tea and coffee: rinse with cold water straight away before washing.
• Red wine or beet: blot, then rinse from the reverse with cold water.
• Always test first on a hidden corner, and check each product page for washing instructions.

Caring for White Table Linen

• Treat spills quickly - the sooner the better.
• Wash on a gentle cycle and follow the care instructions on each product page.
• Iron slightly damp for crisp embroidery; iron lace from the reverse side.
• Store rolled, not folded, to avoid sharp creases.
• Keep a second cloth so one can be in the wash while the other is on the table.
